The Pearl is tucked quietly on the banks of the Brunswick coastal marshland in the heart of Calabash, N.C., just a short drive from Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Dan Maples masterfully designed The Pearl’s two championship golf courses – The Pearl East and The Pearl West, to challenge golfers at all skill levels while showcasing the spectacular 900-acre marsh surroundings. The Pearl is open year-round and offers seasonal specials and golf packages for vacationers.
The courses reward golfers' abilities and their eyes for beauty. They showcase the challenges players of any skill level could desire amid 900 breathtaking acres of marshland.
Fast-rolling greens and finely manicured fairways cut through the southern forest bordering coastal marshland and the Calabash River. This dramatic property has been enhanced with an array of garden and water features that add to the difficulty and splendor of each hole. You’ll share the magnificently landscaped courses with herons, egrets, eagles, deer and our resident alligators.
As challenging as they are beautiful, these courses have won recognition since opening. In 1988, The Pearl was nominated “Best New Public Course” by Golf Digest. Both courses have been ranked among the top courses in the Carolinas.
How would one choose between them? Some go East and some go West ...
The Pearl East, completely renovated in 1999, is a traditional parkland course, sculpted in a pristine woodland, ending with a dynamic 18th hole along the Calabash River. The East Course earned a prestigious 4-star rating in Golf Digest’s “Best Places to Play” in 2008. It features crowned greens, demanding tee shots and consistent conditioning. The East Course is one of the most sought-after courses to play in the area and will be a highlight of your golfing visit to the coast.

The Pearl West is a links-style course with lots of open stretches channeled by displays of thick, verdant pampas grass. The West Course was given a prestigious 4½-star rating in Golf Digest’s “Best Places to Play” in 2004. The Pearl West subtly builds excitement for players as they reach holes 15 through 18 along the bluffs overlooking the coastal marshland and scenic Calabash River. Grand design utilizing the locale's natural beauty leaves little mystery as to why the course has played host to a number of major tournaments and sees so many golf enthusiasts again and again.
